GATHER UP is recruiting!

GATHER UP is an artist-led initiative existing to nurture the developing practices of professional dancers in Bristol. With particular focus on continuing and contributing to the contemporary dance ecology here in this city and further afield, it works from the ground up and out, artists working with and among other artists, in order to sow and grow connections, and open up networks that feed practice, ideas and conversations.

We are looking for a Bristol-based artist working in dance to join the GATHER UP team and work alongside Laila Diallo and Katherine Hall in the delivery of our current project which will run from September 2021 to June 2023.

If successful, you will work to support the delivery of a programme of activity involving: weekly morning classes, monthly open practice sessions, six full-day workshops, a Library of People (a consultancy service for those working in dance), a funding pot to nurture the development of new ideas, another funding pot to address access barriers and artist-to-artist gatherings.

You will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, who is well-organised, able to self-manage, and with an eye for detail. We are specifically looking for an artist with expertise and experience in budget management and finances and/or with competency in creating for and upkeeping online marketing communications across different platforms.

The management of the project will be shared across the team. Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

- Finances: book-keeping, payments and invoicing

- Website updates and creating and posting promotional content across our online platforms

- Management of participants' bookings for workshops, classes and open practice

- Booking accommodation and travel for visiting collaborators

- Team meetings support: set up/minute-taking/agenda

- Management of GATHER UP email and enquiries, shared on a rota with the rest of the team

- Contribution to project planning, programming and ongoing evaluation

- Contribution to project final evaluation and reporting to funders

Terms and Fee

Dates: 13 September 2021 to 30 June 2023

Fee: £3,000/year

Equivalent to 20 days over 10 months (September to June) for each of the 2 years of the project.

There will be a 3-month trial period until 30th November 2021.

A degree of flexibility in terms of when your hours will be worked is essential. We anticipate that a greater amount of time will need to be invested in the first few months of the project, with quieter periods to follow.

As part of this role there is opportunity and additional fee available to contribute further to strategic planning if you are interested in being part of this.

We are also open to a job-share proposal.

To apply

Please send an expression of interest in writing on no more than 1 A4 page or alternatively as a 5min film alongside your CV to: info.gatherup@gmail.com

The closing date for submission is Friday 6 August at 12noon.

We will contact shortlisted applicants by 5pm on 9 August to arrange a conversation by conference call with Laila Diallo, Katherine Hall and a third person (tba), who is independent from the project. These conversations are scheduled for 12 and 13 August. If invited for a conversation we will offer you a fee of £75.00.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people that have an artistic practice working with dance and/or from people that have experienced barriers in progressing or continuing their working as an independent artist due to age, race, socio-economic background and/or identity in the current climate of the dance ecology in the UK.

Do not hesitate to contact us at info.gatherup@gmail.com with any questions or access needs in connection to this call out.

GATHER UP is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and this project is made possible thanks to additional funding from Bristol City Council and Bristol Dance Futures, with support from project partners: Arnolfini, Bristol Old Vic, Theatre Bristol and Tobacco Factory Theatres.
